Pukka Quality
Pukka Pies are produced in our ultra modern production facility in stringently hygienic conditions. Our caring and conscientious staff are trained in both food hygiene and food manufacture.
To reassure you of the care we take when preparing our range of pies, pasties, sausage, sausage rolls and frozen puff pastry we have the following quality assurance accreditations:
BS/EN/ISO 9001:2008 Quality Assurance Accreditation
All aspects of the quality system have to be addressed to pass internal and external inspections.
We are audited by the BSI group (three audits are carried out every year).
- Full traceability – from raw materials to finished products, from our suppliers to our customers.
- Supplier approval – including site visits and specifications for all packaging and ingredients.
- Training of all our staff – Food Hygiene, HACCP, Health and Safety and Leadership Certificates at several levels.
- Strict temperature control & traceability – temperature recording in all our fridges, freezers and delivery vehicles.
- Microbiological testing – all pies, pasties, sausages and sausage rolls by batch in our laboratory.
- Hygienic cleaning and environmental control – cleaning schedule completed daily.
- Internal audits – reporting immediately to the Managing Directors.
- UKAS accredited external laboratory analysis – to verify the nutritional properties and the meat content of each product.
BRC Global Standard For Food Accreditation
Our premises and practices are independently inspected by food safety experts.
Vegetarian Society Approved
We are approved by the Vegetarian Society for our Potato Cheese & Onion Pasty and Pie and Vegetarian frozen puff pastry. All ingredients are of vegetable origin and the utmost care is taken during production so there is no contact with animal products.
GM Free Policy - All Products
The signed and agreed specifications with our suppliers are strictly for GM free ingredients. None the less we have our products analysed independently by a UKAS accredited laboratory to ensure GM free status.
Onsite Microbiological Laboratory CLAS Accredited
All pies, pasties and sausage products are microbiologically tested by batch. Selected incoming raw materials, work in progress, hygiene of machinery, staff hands and overalls are also screened in our microbiological laboratory, which is accredited (within the current scope) under the Campden BRI Laboratory Accreditation Scheme.
EC Export Approved
All production plant and machinery have to meet the highest standards, as do all working practices in accordance with the European Directives for meat processors. Our premises have passed inspections by DEFRA and the FSA and may be 'spot checked' without notice.
HACCP (Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points)
A fully documented systematic study of each product is made; highlighting any processes where hygiene, contamination or microbiological risk may occur. If necessary changes are made and greater controls are exerted to ensure the exact safety of the finished product.
State of the Art, Totally Modern Manufacturing Facility
Our premises are maintained to industry leading standards. The most modern and hygienic fixtures and fittings are used throughout. These purpose built premises have been designed with meticulous care to put hygiene and food safety first.
