Leicester Ladies Hockey Team crowned Super Sixes Finals Champions | February 2012

Leicester-Ladies-Super-Sixes_Champs.jpgPukka Pies sponsored Leicester Ladies Hockey Team successfully conquered Reading to be crowned 2012 Super Sixes Champions at London's Wembley Arena on Sunday. A fantastic achievement for the club and their second time in three seasons.

Despite a side weakened with key players missing due to international call ups and injury, the Leicester Ladies fought a tight battle with Reading, with few clear-cut chances for either side. Reading and Leicester had both overcome semi final opponents that had finished above them in the league table to reach the final and the grit they showed then continued in this tight battle. Both goal keepers were tested consistently throughout the game, making fine penalty corner saves before a single goal from Lauren Turner won the match for Leicester just five minutes from the final whistle.

Pukka Pies are delighted at the win and with continued support from the nation's favourite manufacturer of branded pies hope to help them to more success in domestic and European competitions.

Pukka Pies have signed up a new major network television programme sponsorship - Ade in Britain.

Britain's leading producer of branded pies is the new broadcast sponsors of the new ITV 1 network show.

The show - broadcast five nights a week on ITV 1 from 4pm-5pm – follows Ade Edmondson on a culinary discovery around the British Isles.

Not only will Ade be discovering and cooking the local food but in each of the 20 episodes he will explore every region he visits.

Pukka Pies are no strangers to major network television programme sponsorships – having previously sponsored ITV's flagship show Who Wants to be a Millionaire, The Championship & Regional Soccer Nights.

Marketing and Business Development Controller Peter Mayes said: "We are very excited about this new sponsorship and think that there is a great fit between Pukka Pies and Ade in Britain. Our sponsorship credits are slightly tongue in cheek and we had a lot of fun producing them.  The show targets an adult audience and we estimate that almost 25% of the population will see this sponsorship over the next four weeks”.

Pukka Pies are also long-term sponsors of the official England Football Supporters Band and are planning a major activation for the forthcoming European Championships in Poland and Ukraine in 2012.

Pukka Pies Donate 70,000 Pies to Fareshare | July 2011

Pukka Pies have donated over 70,000 pies to underprivileged people as part of their support of national UK charity FareShare.FareShare.jpg

FareShare is a national UK charity supporting communities to relieve food poverty and addresses two major issues facing the UK: food poverty and food waste.

Since joining the scheme in May 2010, Pukka Pies has donated in excess of 30 pallets of packing mis-shapes (safe products but not suitable for general sale).

Tim Storer, joint managing director of Pukka Pies, said: “I am particularly keen to support our partnership with the FareShare charity.

“At home no-one likes to see good food wasted, and we employ the same maxim at Pukka Pies too.”

“A business of this scale does produce a very small percentage of products which, while not acceptable to sell, are perfectly acceptable to eat.  It may be a case of sauce on the lid or a product which is slightly dented.

“It is especially pleasing to see these products being used in such a positive manner.  I would urge other companies to take a look at this scheme and participate if at all possible.”

FareShare CEO Lindsay Boswell says, “We are delighted that Pukka Pies is supporting our mission to fight hunger in the UK by sending their surplus food to our network. Getting regular access to a hot meal can make a huge difference to the lives of people struggling with food poverty in all of our communities, and the support of companies like Pukka Pies makes it possible for us to reach 35,000 people a day.

“I join Tim Storer in urging other companies to get involved – generating a small surplus in order to meet demand is totally understandable.

“Allowing it to become waste when FareShare offers an ethical way to dispose of it is both wrong and expensive. “

FareShare addresses the issue of food poverty in three key ways:

  • Providing quality food - surplus ‘fit for purpose’ product from the food and drink industry – to organisations working with disadvantaged people in the community
  • Providing training and education around the essential life skills of safe food preparation and nutrition, and warehouse employability training through FareShare’s Eat Well Live Well programme
  • Promoting the message that ‘No Good Food Should Be Wasted’
